Pietra Dura is a wonderful, ancient art form that rises off of it's 2 dimensional surface. The interplay of color, sweetness of line, and pattern is what elevates the trumeau to standing with the weight of the surround.

The pietra dura hearth is like a Persian carpet at the feet of a richly detailed marble surround. The carved green marble tassels feel as if they've been hand tied.
